Hotel fire forces evacuation of guests

A Saturday night fire at the Phoenix Inn at 850 Franklin Blvd. caused $30,000 damage, according to the Eugene Fire Department.

Guests were evacuated as smoke filled the hallways, triggering the sprinkler system at about 10:30 p.m. Fire crews and eight fire vehicles responded, and Eugene police conducted traffic around the area. Guests were allowed back inside at 11:15 p.m.
