Construction of eight new stations along Lane Transit District's EmX bus rapid transit line is now substantially completed, several weeks ahead of schedule.

Now all LTD needs is some new EmX buses.

The first of six New Flyer buses from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is to arrive in early September and LTD plans soon after to start training bus drivers who have signed up to operate the 60-foot-long vehicles.

The buses will ply the four-mile "Franklin Corridor" between downtown Eugene and downtown Springfield beginning Dec. 17. With dedicated bus lanes constructed for about 60 percent of the route, the trek from one downtown terminus to the other is expected to take 16 minutes -...
