Restrict personal fireworks

July 19, 2006, and fireworks are still being exploded in my neighborhood, often at 10 p.m.

I am new to Eugene and have not lived in a community that allowed selling or exploding fireworks since the 1960s. I fail to understand what rights we are upholding to allow children to terrorize pets and risk burning down neighbors' property.

In places I have lived previously, the local fire departments have sought restrictions on fireworks. The property loss and personal injury caused by fireworks always was enough to convince local governments to control...
