Like most companies that start in one part of the world and then expand into other regions, Mann+Hummel led with its strength when it first entered the North American markets. And for the Ludwigsburg, Germany-headquartered air and liquid filtration specialist, that strength was developing air and liquid filtration systems for automotive applications.
Yet along with its expertise in passenger car technology, in its home markets Mann+Hummel has also established itself as a leading player in heavy-duty truck systems. Over the last several years particularly, it has worked to expand that capability into the North American truck markets and grow its business in North America.
"We have concentrated our activities in Europe mainly on the car business--that's our history," said Emese Weissenbacher, vice president of Mann+Hummel's global truck product unit. "In Europe, we decided in 2004 to separate the truck business from the car business in order to focus on it more directly.
