Journalism Expo

The convention's trade show, Journalism Expo, provides convention attendees the opportunity to talk one-on-one with exhibitors and recruiters. Within the Journalism Expo there are a multitude of activities, such as the convention registration area, a silent auction, Book, Mart and an Internet cafe.
Career Development Center
Friday, Aug. 25-Sunday, Aug. 27
Students and those just getting started in their careers can have resumes, clips, and tapes reviewed and take part in small group discussions. Advance registration is requested in the Expo area.
Mark of Excellence Awards Luncheon
Friday, Aug. 25, Noon--2 p.m.
Top student journalists will receive Mark of Excellence Awards, while outstanding faculty and advisers are honored. Samuel Freedman, author of "Letters to a Young Journalist," will speak.
Legal Defense Fund Reception & Auction
Friday, Aug. 25, 6-7:30 p.m.
You don't want to miss the opportunity to see the fabulous items available for bid and to network with hundreds of journalists. Proceeds from this event will go to the Legal Defense Fund, a unique account that can be tapped for aiding journalists in defending the freedom of speech and the press.
President's Installation Banquet
Saturday, Aug. 26, 7:30-10:30 p.m.
National leaders for the Society take office and the Society's highest awards are presented. The most outstanding chapters are honored for their accomplishments.

Training for Journalists

Location: Columbia College Journalism Department Lab (transportation not provided)
Individuals who use basic Internet tools in their reporting and wish to go to the next level of computer-assisted reporting will receive invaluable tips from this workshop on how to save time and work smarter. Each participant will create a simple web "base station" and begin to use it for reporting on a story of their choice. The Web site will be available to you after the workshop.
