Who's in charge seems to be a heated question around Eugene City Hall when it comes to the yet-to-be-hired police auditor.

City Manager Dennis Taylor has attempted to diffuse a touchy situation by concluding he doesn't need to be directly in charge of the police auditor's employees. Instead, the auditor can have that role, Taylor has decided.

Eugene voters last fall approved a change to the City Charter authorizing the City Council to create a citizens review board and hire an auditor to monitor complaint investigations against police officers.

But six months after the election, questions remained over who will have final authority over the auditor's staff.
