PROJECT OVERVIEW

The local COMPANHIA SIDERURGICA DE TUBARAO (CST), a subsidiary of Luxembourg-based ARCELOR S.A., is currently engaged in the completion of steel slab manufacturing capacity expansion project in the state of Espirito Santo by mid-June 2006. As a result, steel output is expected to be increased from 5 million tons per year (t/y) up to 7.5 million t/y.

In addition, the company is now studying development plans aimed at further expanding production output up to 9 million t/y by 2010. The company's longer-term objective would reportedly involve also building a new slabs plant in Espirito Santo. According to a company Spokesman the new mill could be built in cooperation with a partner. Operational start-up of this unit is tentatively scheduled for some time in 2012 at an estimated...
