PROJECT OVERVIEW

The existing Mariscal Sucre Airport is located in the central area of Quito, Ecuador, and suffers from a number of constraints, including inadequate terminal facilities and runways too short to accommodate large aircraft. Because these restrictions cannot be rectified at the airport's current location development plans call for building a new international facility at approximately 25 kms outside the city.

As a result, core agreements were recently established between the CANADIAN COMMERCIAL CORPORATION (CCC), representing the Government of Canada, and CORPAQ, Quito's municipal airport authority. Under those agreements, CCC was awarded concession construction rights and responsibilities for the new airport. Under the core agreements, CCC subsequently subcontracted with the Canada-based AECON CONSTRUCTION GROUP INC. for the fulfillment of its construction obligations for the new facility.

AECON then announced that it would lead a Canadian consortium that will take over management of the Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito as the first step in the proposed development of a new international airport in the Ecuadorian capital. In so doing,...
