PROJECT OVERVIEW

A Thai/Japanese joint venture, operating under the name of PTT ASAHI CHEMICAL LTD., was recently established in view of building 3 chemical projects in Thailand. The partners in the planned undertaking and their respective shareholdings include the local PTT PCL (47.5%) in conjunction with Japan-based ASAHI KASEI CORP. (AK - 47.5%) and MARUBENI CORP. (5%).

As things currently stand, the newly established company will seek licences, buy land and complete environmental impact studies for the 3 proposed projects that will have a combined value of about $484,000,000.

Construction plans under consideration call for building plants to produce: - 200,000 tons per year (t/y) of acrylic nitrile, a raw material for producing acrylic resin. Project...
