Despite a surprisingly large withdrawal of natural gas from storage inventories last week, January gas futures took the downside instead of rallying to even loftier highs. Traders said market conditions before the report were already overcooked, precipitating the massive sell-off. Still, most market participants said the likelihood of a huge storage withdrawal this week and longer-term weather forecasts are key in determining whether prices forge ahead or fade further.
