Carlsbad-based Holocom Networks met and married its technology partner on the other side of the country.

The compatible couple came together based on mutual interests in not only technology, but also the U.S. military, homeland security and intelligence.

Holocom Networks, a technology firm dedicated to computer security, is well-suited to its mate, Annapolis, Md.-based Secured Processing Inc., a developer of information technology solutions for the federal government and private industry.

The union was solidified through the Chesapeake Innovation Center, or CIC, a technology incubator focused on homeland security.

CIC's 24,000-square-foot incubator facility in Annapolis is headquarters to Secured Processing and also part-time home to Holocom Networks, which will soon have two full-time staffers based there.

CIC Chief Operating Officer Mark Sauter said Secured Processing met Holocom on its own and brought the Local firm to CIC for extra support and exposure to the marketplace.

"We were not necessarily the matchmaker, but I think we were the best man at the wedding," Sauter said.

CIC is in the business of developing relationships, usually among angel investors, investor groups and seed stage venture capital firms. All of the companies it deals with are involved in homeland...
