CORVALLIS - They smacked each other around for a couple hours or so, supplied some stuff that would make a highlight film and some that would not.

But after Saturday's wind-whipped scrimmage at Reser Stadium that signaled the end of spring practice, the Beavers said they were on the right track for a reversal of last season's misfortunes.

"We want to get better," said strong safety Sabby Piscitelli, a member of the Oregon State secondary that was picked apart amid a struggling 2005 season that ended with losses in four of the last five games and a 5-6 record.
