Even as Lane Community College prepares to deal with a $6 million shortfall in next year's budget that could cost more than 30 people their jobs, the LCC Board will soon vote on a new faculty contract that will boost salaries approximately 13 percent over three years.

Both sides acknowledged that the timing of the agreement is unfortunate but unavoidable. The salary deal was needed to keep faculty pay competitive with other large community colleges and simplify the salary ladder, they said.
