Pat Guido wasn't going to get fooled again when he batted with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth inning.

The Elk Grove senior third baseman was looking for a curve when he struck out in the first inning on a fastball from Conant junior Josh Fininis.

But Guido had a different approach with Fininis and Elk Grove ace left-hander Ryan Copeland locked in a tense Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover pitcher's duel Monday in Hoffman Estates.

"I knew with the bases loaded and no outs he wasn't going to mess around," Guido said. "I decided to just load up and try to crush the first pitch I saw."

And Guido unloaded on a fastball that he crushed over the left- field fence for his first grand slam since he was a freshman "B" player. This...
