Long before afternoon showers chased everyone inside, Dennis Nevolo rained on the parade of all of his opponents.

The Warren sophomore lifted the first-place trophy at the prestigious Pitchford 32 boys tennis invitational on Saturday at Hersey, raising his game to another level to claim the No. 1 singles prize and in all likelihood the top seed at the state tournament.

Nevolo proved worthy of the top honor after defeating St. Francis senior Connor Dawson 6-3, 6-2 in what could be a preview of the state championship match on these same courts in Arlington Heights.

The Nevolo title, along with a second-place finish from senior Keith Moran at No. 2 singles and steady play from Warren's doubles teams, helped coach Greg Cohen's team earn a sixth-place finish with 43 points, just 1 point out of the top five as Deerfield (44) edged the Blue Devils.

Lake Forest ran away from a tightly bunched field to gain the team title with 60 points. Highland...
