By the time the rain came and put a halt to the final round of the West Aurora boys tennis quad Saturday afternoon, Neuqua Valley had already clinched first place in the team competition.

The Wildcats began the day by sweeping West Aurora, 5-0, then did the same to St. Charles East, setting up a finals match against Glenbard West.

"It was a real good tournament for us," Glenbard West coach Jim Valleskey said. "We got to see some good competition, and I liked the way that our kids performed."

The Wildcats swept the three doubles matches before the skies opened up and the rest of the tournament was canceled.

Led by strong play from Stewart Swain and Paul Waterloo at No. 1 doubles, Glenbard West got to the finals by beating St. Charles North, 4-1, then sweeping Marmion.

"(Swain and Waterloo) have been struggling a little bit playing in our tough conference, so I hope that this gave them more confidence," Valleskey said.
