With 10 wins in its last 11 games, Larkin's softball team came into the 13th Annual Larkin Slugfest Saturday with some lofty expectations.

But things turned sour for the Royals at their own tournament, and they had to use a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning of the final game to claim one win out of the three games they played at the cold, rainy and windy Elgin Sports Complex.

"I wanted us to get to the championship game to see where we're at," said Larkin coach Larry Hight. "This is not how we usually perform at Slugfest, but Slugfest is a goofy day sometimes."
