Ana Rewakowicz: Dressware and Other Inflatables.

For Ana Rewakowicz, notions of the self in relation to personal and social identity, as well as adjustments to these boundaries, are informed by technology and the physical environment as much as they are by the social and the political. The exhibition "Dressware and Other Inflatables" asks the participant to imagine how material culture might collude with the individual to inform identity and, in the process, reorient social relationships. Can belonging be located in complex mediations between the body, individuals, and groups? Can temporary environments compel the subject to activate relationships that take place purportedly in the realm of fixed places and stable masses of monumental sculpture and architecture?

The exhibit, curated by Gaetane Verna, is comprised of the artist's exploration into the possibilities of inflatable materials. Combining materials such as latex rubber, polyurethane, solar panels, zippers and fans, she offers the participant five constructed mobile art forms and sketches for nomadic prototypes, including The Life Saver Dress (digital drawing, 2003-05) and The Parachute Dress (digital drawing, 2003-05).
