Rodney Graham: A Glass of Beer and Other Works Lisson Gallery London October 19-November 23

Rodney Graham's latest show at the Lisson Gallery reveals the artist's skilled refinement at overlaying disparate cultural references within the same work. This most recent solo exhibition features an endless line-up of borrowed influences--from recreations of scientific thought-experiments, to self-portraits inspired by kitsch pub decor, and a sculptural homage to Elvis memorabilia. Irrespective of the medium that Graham works from, his practice is characterized by its intellectual rigour and the unique way that he re-appropriates everyday cultural materials that resonate within our collective consciousness.

Graham recasts such a multiplicity of source material within each individual work so that it becomes difficult to draw connections between these incongruous self-contained worlds.
