Great article on aircraft designations in the March issue of WINGS! The lack of adherence to the designation system has been one of my pet peeves since I was reassigned from the F-111F at RAF Lakenheath to the FB-111A at Plattsburgh AFB. FB-111A? A bomber modified to the fighter mission? Where were the B-110, B-109, B-108, etc.?
