Personal and corporate bankruptcy filings remain down following the new federal law that took effect Oct. 17, but the number of filings continue to rise at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit after fall offs in November.

There were 14,877 bankruptcy filings of various chapters in October, and just 602 in November. In the first quarter of 2006, there were 3,932 filings, compared to 9,443 in the first quarter of 2004 and 10,175 in the first quarter of 2005.
