Art Van Furniture is trying to attract a younger crowd into its stores by featuring designs from EQ3, a move that industry insiders say is likely to help it compete against Swedish retailer Ikea when it opens this summer.

EQ3 is a franchise retail division created in 2001 by Canadian furniture manufacturer Palliser Furniture Ltd. The line follows European contemporary design and typically appeals to people such as first-time home buyers and apartment dwellers, who are looking for affordable, fashionable furniture that can fit into small spaces.

Prices for EQ3 furnishings range from $199 and up for a dinette set to $599 and up for a sofa.
