What a relief.

That's exactly what pitcher Alex Vikartofsky gave Stevenson's softball team, which pulled out a 2-1 victory over host Libertyville in a North Suburban Lake Division contest Wednesday.

With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Vikartofsky took over for starting pitcher Katie Wilkenson and proceeded to strike eight of the last nine batters she faced.

Stevenson won the game in the top of the sixth. Courtney Murtha singled, reached second base on an error and sped to third on a fielder's choice. Caitlin Hoffman then tapped a grounder down the first-baseline.

Libertyville pitcher Gina DeMarco picked up the ball and tagged Hoffman, but Murtha was able to slide under the tag by Wildcat catcher Katie Larson.
