Vincent's lessons to us.

Many have been touched by Vincent's deep humanity and passion. Many artists and thinkers--and many of us ordinary human beings--found their identity through Vincent and found a soul mate in their lonely struggles. Vincent van Gogh, painter, writer and above all, wonderful human being. Together with Vaslav Nijinsky, Vincent van Gogh haunts our collective subconscious. Both men were seekers of that white light--seekers of the truth, capable of expressing their feelings rather than their thoughts and both of them were so-called madmen in a world of insanity. Both of them single-handedly changed the future of their medium. Vincent became the forefather of modern art and Nijinsky the forefather of modern dance.

Early in his ten-year career as an artist Vincent wrote:

What am I in most people's eyes? A nonentity? Or an eccentric and disagreeable man? Somebody who has no position in society and never will have. In short the lowest of the low. Very well if this were true, then I should want my work to show what is in the heart of such an eccentric, of such a nobody. This is my ambition, which in spite of everything is founded less on anger than on love, more on serenity than on passion. Then I want to...
