Article Excerpt Byline: POP NOTESBy Serena Markstrom The Register-Guard
Just over a year ago, William Boydston, who friends knew simply as "Hopper," died in an automobile accident in Eugene at age 19.
On the anniversary of his March 11 death, family and friends held a candlelight vigil at the site of the accident, the intersection of Game Farm and Coburg roads. On Saturday, those who knew Hopper will join for a show in his honor at Agate Hall.
"He was a member of the local music scene since he was very young and never missed a punk, hardcore or metal concert here in town," says Jay Schmitt, singer for Grounds for Assault, a Eugene hardcore band that will headline the memorial show. "He was always the first to come up to a band after they played with a handshake and kind words.
"Anyone who has been around the local punk, hardcore, metal music scene would have known Hopper, maybe not by name but if they saw him they would know him," Schmitt says. "We want everyone to come out and have a good time in his memory."
Jean Grey from Eugene will open the show, followed by Prepare for War out of Portland and Blood Stands Still from Southern California.
