While Tennessee songstress RobinElla worked on her first record for Dualtone, her producer insisted the next person to cover the War classic "Low Rider" was going to "hit it big," she says.

"Nobody drives a low rider," she says in her Appalachian accent when reached at her parents' home in Maryville, Tenn., recalling what she told her producer, Doug Lancio. "All my friends drive big trucks." She even changed the low rider to a big truck in the lyrics to try to make the song work, but she just couldn't.

Lancio still thought she needed a cover tune on the album, "Solace for the Lonely," which came out in February. It ended up being the 1971 hit...
