Way back in January, the Pac-10 Conference's eight softball coaches figured Oregon was not going to be the team to beat this spring, voting it into the cellar of the preseason poll.

And that was before the Ducks ran into all kinds of challenges, including a pitching staff reduced to one active arm for nearly a month.

"We weren't thrilled by it (the poll)," Oregon coach Kathy Arendsen said, "but it's a motivator for us. We're going into the Pac-10 season as the weakest of the eight teams, but I don't believe we'll be there at the end."

Today the Ducks are at full strength - save for some arthroscopic surgery earlier this week on Arendsen's right...
