Those who questioned whether Ben Voogd could make the jump from a small-town Class 3A school to big-time college basketball can turn on their televisions this weekend to find out the answer.

The Siuslaw graduate will be on the sport's biggest stage when LSU faces UCLA in the Final Four on Saturday night in Indianapolis.

"Playing in the Elite Eight and the Sweet 16 alone was something; just being on national television (and) in front of 35,000 fans," Voogd said Monday from Baton Rouge, La. "I can't imagine what it's going to be like in Indianapolis. The environment will be amazing and I am looking forward to it. I'm ready to get going."

Voogd has already silenced the critics who wondered if the 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard was in over his head when he signed with the Tigers. Now a member of perhaps the best freshman class in the nation, Voogd has played in all 35 games this season, including four tournament victories.
