Coach: Eric Leyba, fifth season.

Last year's record: League champions at 16-0. Defeated Crescent Valley, 5-1, in second round of playoffs and lost to Roseburg, 1-0, in third round.

Outlook: The three-time defending Midwestern League champions are the favorites again thanks to the return of Class 4A player of the year Kelly Dyer. Mindy Bean joined Dyer on the all-league team last year and has moved to shortstop this season, and Megan Peterson, a second-team all-league selection, has moved from third base to second base. Freshmen Jessica Plumer and Ashley Puls join the infield at first and third, respectively. Carie Boothe, a second-team all-league selection, will take over at catcher, and Sierra Lessel will return to the outfield after earning honorable mention. Sophomore Amy Stanton and freshman Amanda Blacklock will play the outfield along with seniors Hellen Weaver and Amber Moriguchi.

2, Thurston

Coach: Jim Patrick, fifth season.

Last year's record: 9-7, tied for fourth place. Lost to Putnam, 4-0, in first round of playoffs.
