Article Excerpt In 2005-2014, the USA will save about $1,300 billion in prescription drug costs through the use of pharmacy benefit management tools, claims a new study by business consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers, published by the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, which represents PBMs. The PwC study also forecasts that:
- in 2005, PBM activities will cut Medicare prescription drug costs $937 per beneficiary in private plans (about $18 billion) and, in 2005-14, they will save $693 billion on private plans' Medicare-related spending. These data apply to beneficiaries with drug coverage provided through private plans including Medicare Advantage health plans, Medicare supplemental policies and employer-sponsored retiree cover;
