When Mark McCreery was 31, he purchased a computer firm. The next year, he acquired another one, with the idea of developing a consulting/software integration company. But he kept losing personnel to WorldCom, SkyTel and other firms offering better pay and benefits.

However, when one employee stayed busy doing direct mail, McCreery knew he was on to something. Today, AmeriMail Direct employs 45 and provides turnkey direct mail services, including graphics, consulting, printing, database hygiene and management and, of course, direct mail production. Last December, McCreery handed the reins of AmeriMail Direct to Ernest James and will remain a consultant with the firm.
