Like many of her fellow math majors at Vanderbilt University considering a career in the insurance or actuarial fields, Allison Graves was prepared for her first round of interviews with a major insurance company.

But on the way to the first group meeting, she fell down the stairs, severely spraining her ankle and chipping a bone.
