DUBLIN, Ireland-Captive managers and regulators in Dublin are gearing up for the implementation of the European Union's reinsurance directive, which will introduce the regulation of reinsurance captives when it is passed into Irish legislation in the coming months.

Ireland likely will be one of the first E.U. member states to adopt the directive when it passes a bill that incorporates the directive into Irish law; a final version of the bill is expected to be published for public consultation within the next month, sources say.

All 25 member states must adopt the directive by 2007 and then be subject to a one-year transition period before the directive becomes fully operational across the European Union in 2008.
