The Pac-10 goes into its final week of the regular season with the possibility of a five-way deadlock for first place.

The best thing is, it's really not that much of a stretch to think it could happen, that UCLA, California, Washington, Arizona and Stanford all could end up at 12-6. It could happen this way: the Bruins (12-4) lose twice in the Bay Area. While the Bears (11-5) beat the Bruins, they lose to USC. Stanford (10-6) beats both of the Los Angeles visitors to Maples Pavilion.

Meanwhile, in the desert, Washington (11-5) splits by beating Arizona State, which means Arizona (10-6) needs to take care of Washington State before the Huskies arrive Saturday.

A tie among multiple teams, for seeding in the Pac-10 tournament, is first broken by the records against the other teams in the deadlock, and with all of the teams playing at least one game this weekend against another contender, it's unsettled to say the least.

The edge in all of this? Well, only UCLA and California completely control their destiny. If the Bruins sweep, they claim their first Pac-10 title since 1997. It should be quite a showdown Thursday night in Berkeley...
