Both former Ducks knew which questions were coming.

How, the assembled personnel at the NFL draft combine wanted to know, is the repaired ankle of quarterback Kellen Clemens? And why, when they watched film of the Ducks, did it seem defensive tackle Haloti Ngata let up for a play now and then?

"A lot of coaches just asked me if I loved the game," said Ngata, the junior who left Oregon with a year of eligibility remaining. "They thought sometimes I wasn't going as hard as I could, and they wanted to know what that was all about."

Never mind that Ngata bench-pressed 225 pounds an astounding 37 times, though he was disappointed after doing 41 repetitions in a previous workout. Ngata said 37 was third-most among defensive linemen at the combine, a weeklong event ending today in Indianapolis that gave 330 elite...
