Here it comes. The moment of truth.

The hill suddenly gets steeper. The competition ratchets up the pace. A gap opens as they pull away from me. The wind slaps my face. It's time to dig.

I'm on my road bike east of Creswell in a place known as Bear Creek, on a Saturday morning ride with the Willamette Valley Women's Cycling Team, aka the Poplollies.

They say they might be the only cycling team in Eugene devoted exclusively to women, and they've invited me to tag along for a training ride.
