MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Fred's, Inc. (NASDAQ/NM: FRED) today reported record sales for the four-week fiscal month of February, the first month of fiscal 2006, which ended February 25, 2006.

Fred's total sales for the month rose 8% to $133.8 million from $124.1 million in February last year. Comparable store sales for the month increased 0.3% versus 4.1% in the same period last year.
