Accomplishment

Swimming champion: Eight-year-old Tommy Ghasedi of Willamalane Swim Club was the only local event winner in last week's Oregon state 10-and-under swimming championships held at Willamalane Pool. Ghasedi, a third-grader at Pleasant Hill's Trent Elementary School, won his age group's 100-yard individual medley event in a time of 1 minute, 24.65 seconds.

Spring Break Camps

UO Sports Camp, March 27-29, is designed for children in grades 1-5. This 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Wednesday, program will group participants by age and offer instruction and play in soccer, tennis and track, all on the UO campus. The cost is $50. OUSA soccer camps: Oregon United Soccer Academy's March 27-31 camp for boys and girls ages U6 through U14 is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Sheldon High School turf field. The cost is $100. The speed and agility camp for boys and girls ages U11 to U18 is 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the same site, with a fee of $30. Register online at oregonunitedsoccer.org or call 683-8845.

Eugene Metro Futbol Club invites boys and girls of all skill levels in grades 4-9 to a skill camp March 28-30 at the South Eugene High School turf field, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Players will be grouped by age with two coaches per group. Royal Basketball Academy will hold its spring camp March 28-29 at Northwest Christian College's Morse Event Center. There are four sessions by age and gender: boys in grades 6-12, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; girls in grades 6-12, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; boys in grades 3-5, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and girls in grades 3-5, 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Each player should bring two basketballs. Churchill High School softball clinic conducted by CHS coaches and players for girls in grades 4-8 will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 1. Emphasis will be on throwing, catching, hitting and pitching skills. The cost is $40, less a $5 discount if you bring a friend. Kidsports Klassic soccer coaches' organizational meeting for the spring season is March 7 in the South Eugene High School cafeteria. A coaching clinic will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the turf field followed by the meeting for coaches of boys and girls U12, U14 and high school teams.
