MESA, Ariz. -Try as they might, Cubs coaches are having a tough time getting anything past shortstop Ronny Cedeno in spring training.

Groundballs up the middle? Cedeno glides over, scoops up the ball and fires to first base. Hot shot to the hole between short and third? No problem. A nifty backhand takes care of that.

And the "routine" ball right at him? Cedeno gobbles it up without a hitch or a flinch.

That's all well and good now during drills, but the Cubs like what they see so far from the 23-year-old native of Carabobo, Venezuela.
