I. Overview and Summary: ADB maintained and further strengthened the momentum of its strategic and operational interventions and activities. ADB approved a record $1.509 billion in lending assistance to Pakistan in 2005 for 8 projects and of this amount; $389 million was from the concessional Asian Development Fund (ADF) and $1120 million from Ordinary Capital Resources (OCR). A total of $15.2 million in grant assistance (including cofinancing grants) was also approved for 25 Technical Assistance projects in 2005.

The level of disbursements in 2005 totaled $563 million, while contract awards totaled $734 million. As of end 2005, 71 ADB loans (48 projects) were under implementation in Pakistan for a total amount of $5.53 billion, in addition to 69 technical assistance projects for a total of $69 million. A sustantative economic and sector work program was pursued by ADB in 2005 and a number of high-quality reports and documentation produced during the year.
