Public works did bang-up job

To the editor: We rate the Schaumburg Public Works department very highly.

In the first part of January the basement drains in our bi-level home on Norwood Lane started backing up. After calling out a local plumber to inspect via the clean out we had installed years earlier, it was determined that there was a possible break in the sewage line down at the parkway area.

The public works crew came out that Friday morning to inspect, then returned later on that day to inspect again. They found that there was indeed a broken pipe under the parkway, most likely from the roots of a huge tree that had been there. They told me that they would set up an appointment for the crew to come out and remove the tree and also to dig up the old pipe and replace it.

This was in the afternoon. I called my wife at home later that evening and she told me the tree was gone, and that the crew was in the process of digging up the ground to replace the damaged pipe. They stayed well into the evening and finished the job, which took hours to complete. We were very impressed at the quickness of their response, and also the courteous and informative manner with which they tended to our needs.

We feel that Schaumburg is very fortunate to have such individuals working for the people of this town. We just want to thank the public works crew that came out, as well as the entire department for their efforts.
