PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Japan-based BRIDGESTONE CORP. announced in late December 2005 that it was going to build a new synthetic rubber plant in China in order to meet growing international demand for synthetic rubber used to produce tires.

Construction plans under consideration call for building a factory with an installed production capacity of 50,000 tons per year of styrene-butadiene rubber. The new facility, to be sited in Huizhou, Guangdong province, is scheduled to become operational during the first half of 2008.

The cost to complete the project has been pegged at $100,000,000.

BRIDGESTONE employs a total staff of about 108,000 engaged in the manufacture and sale of tires and...
