Sometimes called "the worlds first cyborg," Dr. Steve Mann has been inventing, designing, and building wearable computers for more than twenty years, dating back to his high-school days in the 1970s. He brought his inventions and ideas to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991, initiating what was to later become the MIT Wearable Computing Project. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Time, Newsweek, Scientific American, and other publications, and has appeared on numerous television stations and networks, including NBC, ABC, CNN, and the Discovery Channel. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. Mann is the author of the textbook Intelligent Image Processing and Cyborg: Digital Destiny and Human Possibility in the Age of the Wearable Computer, a popular account of his life as a cyborg.--EDS.
