Jay Dee Lunsford
SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be Jan. 31 for Jay Dee Lunsford of Springfield, who died Jan. 26 of colon cancer. He was 87.
Lunsford was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Cement, Okla., to Hugh and Stella Matthews Lunsford. Lunsford previously lived in Longview, Wash., and Olney, Texas. He graduated from high school in Texas.
He married Jamie Carroll in Abilene, Texas, in 1939. Lunsford later married Emily Elizabeth Pearson in Kelso, Wash., on Sept. 25, 1948. She died in August 2000.
Lunsford worked at Weyerhaeuser in Longview for five years before transferring in 1948 to the Weyerhaeuser paper company in Springfield, where he worked in the maintenance department and as a carpenter until 1959. He later worked for 16 years as Chembond Corp. in Springfield. He owned Tex's Saw Shop on Main Street for three years.
He was active in the Moose Lodge and bowling leagues, and volunteered for his children's school activities. He enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, reading and making personal birthday and...
