The irony of Lane County spending up to a quarter million dollars to educate voters about the financial plight of county government is so glaringly obvious that even county commissioners can see it clearly.

"We got our hand out on one hand, and we're spending money with the other - that's a dilemma," county board Chairman Bill Dwyer remarked before joining fellow commissioners in voting unanimously Wednesday to approve the big-ticket publicity campaign.
