Billy Roberts looked no further than his own dad for inspiration.
Roberts' father, Earl, grew up in the countryside near Magee, helping his dad farm cotton on a small piece of rented land. When he was 10, his father died, and Earl became the sole source of support for his mother and younger sister. By the age of 11, he had recognized the need for an education and enrolled in the first grade while continuing to support his family by farming.
