Oregon drivers beware: Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law.

But who has time to follow the Legislature's every decision regarding traffic safety and the rules of the road?

Never fear. Here's a rundown of the new laws that will affect Oregon motorists in the new year.

The 2005 Oregon Legislature passed several bills designed to improve safety inside vehicles, for passengers as well as drivers.

To cut down on distractions that can cause crashes, television screens are now forbidden within view of the driver. The ban includes all image devices, such as DVD and CD players. Vehicle navigation systems are exempted.
