Six-foot-3 freshman Brenna Heater scored 18 points and Josianne McDermott and Jamie Roupp added 15 and 10, respectively, as sixth-ranked Ashland defeated host South Eugene 47-42 in the championship game of the Far West Shootout girls basketball tournament Thursday.

South Eugene trailed the Grizzlies (11-0) by 28-14 at halftime but pulled to within 43-42 with 1:13 left on a three-pointer by Camille Richey. Heater then scored on a layup and Roupp hit two free throws to finish the scoring.

Richey finished with 13 points to lead the Axemen, followed by Sarah Whitfield with 11 and Mariah Olson with 10.

South Eugene outscored Ashland 20-5 at the free throw line.

Marist 42, South Albany 30

Colleen Conklin and Lydia Gust scored 10 points each as the Spartans captured third place. Marist was 12-of-17 from the line, where the Rebels were only 4-of-11.

Cassidy Daniels led South Albany with 11. The Spartans outscored the Rebels 18-7 in the second quarter to take a 24-18 halftime lead.
