Article Excerpt This Cruise Ship Guide is being reprinted with the permission of the Steamship Historical Society of America Inc. and its author, Peter T. Eisele, who also serves as associate editor of the society s quarterly publication, Steamboat Bill, where the guide originally appeared. Cruise Travel first published it in installments in 1981-82. The guide proved so popular with readers that updated listings ran in 1987, 1989, 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000, and 2003.
The guide is designed to include all major cruise ships marketed by travel agents stateside and abroad; it incorporates many foreign ships you may never have heard of, as well as some proposed newbuildings you may never hear of again. Special sections at the end cover idle passenger ships and their projected plans, and vessels removed from cruising status. The facts contained herein were compiled from the most reliable sources available (whose numbers do not always match), including other guides and the ships owners. The listings are designed to serve or@ as a guide; updates will be published as necessary, due to changes within the industry. More information about the society itself is available by contacting the Steamship Historical Society of America Inc., 300 Ray Drive/ Suite 4, Providence, RI 02906; www.sshsa.net.
