Rainstorms that dumped a half-dozen inches on spots along the Oregon Coast on Wednesday caused rivers all over Western Oregon to jump their banks.

The Siuslaw River hit its 18-foot flood stage by midmorning and rose another foot by noon. However, an afternoon dry spell in the weather probably meant the river wouldn't reach its predicted height of 21 feet - at least until the next set of Pacific storms reaches the coast early Friday morning.

The Siuslaw was high enough Wednesday to spill over Highway 126 at Cushman and gather around piers of several Mapleton homes that were jacked up after a major flood in 1996.
